What is the "Google Golden Triangle"?
The Google™ Golden Triangle
When your website does not appear in the first few lines of the first page, that is, in the top left hand corner of the “white area” on the first page of search results, the person requesting the search is significantly less likely to arrive at your site. That top left hand corner of the first page of search results is called the “Google Golden Triangle”, illustrated in both images, below.
The color-shaded areas are what are called inorganic results, meaning the items listed there display because someone paid advertising money.
The white area is the organic results area. Items display there because search engines calculated they have the highest likelihood of matching what the search person is looking for.
Outside the Google Golden Triangle, your chance of receiving the visitor at your website drops to about 10% – that is – one tenth of what it would be inside the Triangle. In addition, when your website’s earliest appearance is beyond Page One of search results, your chance of receiving the web visit drops by another 90%.
This makes it imperative for businesses to do whatever they can to get their website to appear there.
