Seven Myths and Seven Realities of appearing early in search results

Myth 1: There are tricks you can do with your website to make it appear on page one of search results.

Reality: It takes work and dedication to appear in the organic (non-advertisement) section of page one of search results.

Myth 2: Where in search results a website appears is not so important.

Reality: 80-90% of business-to-business transactions begin with a search on the web. About 50% of consumer spending does. 90% of all Internet transactions begin on the very first page of search results!!

Myth 3: Appearing in the first two or three pages of search results is good enough.

Reality: 90% of searchers never go beyond page one of search results. If they don't find what they are looking for on the first page, they enter different keywords and do the search again.

Myth 4: Build a fantastic website and people will find it.

Reality: No matter how useful and valuable your website is, it is invisible if it doesn't appear on page one of search results. That is probably the hardest fact for website owners to accept.

Myth 5: Search engines will find my website if I give it enough time.

Reality: You need an aggressive program of Inbound Link creation for at least six to eight months for search engines to notice that you exist.

Myth 6: When I get my keywords right, the traffic will come.

Reality: You need a significant amount of Latent Semantic Content to reinforce your keywords before they get the attention of search words.

Myth 7: Our investment in AdWords is all we need to generate traffic.

Reality: People don't trust ads as much as they trust your appearance in the organic (non-advertisement) section of search results.
