Landing page; targeting specific pages
Air Traffic Controllers give arriving aircraft pilots a specific runway upon which to land. Thankfully they don't say "you are cleared to land at Denver International". The pilot is given a specific runway upon which to land.
Search Engine Optimization is best served when specific pages are targeted, particularly when it comes to creating inbound links on other sites that point to your website.
It is better to have a single page (from your website) appear on the first page of search results, than a thousand of your pages to appear beyond the first page.
Even if you have hundreds of pages on your website, two or three pages may stand above the rest for their greater quality, interest or web traffic. A high value page might be one for your best-selling or most profitable products, or it might be an outstanding endorsement from a happy customer. True, all pages do contribute to the overall quality of your website, as well as TrustRank and PageRank of the home page, but it is individual pages that are listed in search results. It is better to have a single page appear on the first page of search results, than a thousand of your pages to appear beyond the first page.
