Keep killer posts for busy days
I don't know why, but Tuesday always seemed to be the busiest day of the week on any website traffic report I have even been able to observe. Thursdays were in second place for some reason. Perhaps people slacked off Mondays and Fridays and cruised a bit on Wednesdays.
Your killer blog post
If you've come up with the Cure for the Common Cold and wish to post it to your blog, don't publish it on a Saturday. Post it on Monday at about 8pm New York time. When the search engines comb the web for new stuff, your new post will be picked up and broadcast to all those who are getting a feed on the search for common cold cures. More people read their feed on Tuesday morning than any other day of the week, especially Saturday or Sunday.
The other thing to remember is that highly topical posts will get a better hit rate than stale or premature posts. For example, if you wrote an epic essay on Barack Obama's family journey to the United States and wish to post it to your blog, a good time to post it is the night before Barack is likely to be heavily in the news. For example, he will compete in the Pennsylvania Primary with Hillary Clinton on April 22, 2008. Many folks will be searching on that day for his name. Ideally, you want the search engines to have picked up the arrival of your very fresh essay about him the day before. That way, your chances of receiving traffic are at their highest.
- It is good to make valuable postings to your web every day.
- Post the weaker ones on Friday evening and Saturday evening.
- Post the strongest ones Monday at around 8am EST and Wednesday at around 8pm EST (to get picked up by search engines for the next day).
