You are an SME (Subject Matter Expert). That's why you are running a blog in the first place; because your facts and perspectives are of value to others.

If you make a posting to another high quality, well trafficked blog, (making sure to include your name and link back to your own blog), your contribution to that site will be rewarded in several ways:

1. A link back to your site that may drive extra direct traffic to your blog.
2. You get your name up in lights where many people may see it.
3. This high-quality inbound link will add to your rankings among search engines.

Don't be afraid to "give away value" in this manner. You can still post the same text to your own blog of course, and that should remain your greatest focus, but it is better that you make the posting of your own creation and expertise rather that someone plagiarizing your work on another blog and taking credit for it. It's kind of like "eating your own children before someone else does".
