Brevity is the soul of wit
Unless you are Brad Pitt or Paris Hilton, chances are, your readers don't want to hear how your day is going, what the weather is like where you live or at what time you awoke this morning. They want to hear something new and valuable about your subject matter.
Blog postings should be short and sweet if possible. If they are long, and I admit I like to get into detail myself sometimes, there should be plenty of relevant material present. Each paragraph should have something relevant to the subject in it.
In this regard, a good blog posting might start like "The best way to keep knitting needles from rusting is to keep them in ziplock bags containing antidessicants all summer long ....".
A poor blog posting might begin "Now that I've had my second cup of coffee, I am ready to start my first blog posting of the day...".
Start, continue and wrap up every blog posting on subject.
