For great visual effect, make the background color (often white) of images transparent.
Modern browsers support images with a transparent background. You can exploit this feature easily to make your images more appealing if they are displayed on a non-white background, for example, a watermark or shaded area.
Here are some example of where a partially transparent image — to great visual effect — is displayed on a web page: www.absolutedigi.com. Note the images contained in the filmstrip effect on the right hand bar of the screen.
Note: Some image formats support transparency (e.g. .png and .gif), while others do not (e.g. .jpg, bmp, etc.). That is why you must save your image in a format that supports transparency in order to use this feature. This is covered in the step-by-step guide, above.
